Newmarket viaduct
Newmarket Viaduct Improvements to Scheme Assessment Report (SAR), as the Opus lead designer on the 650metre viaduct replacement project I effectively liaised with our project partner Beca and developed to preliminary design stage the replacement options of the existing viaduct: including steel plate girder composite, steel box post tensioned concrete box options. A key focus of the replacement was the continued use of the existing lifeline structure with the minimum impact on the existing state highway network. this saw a staged deconstruction of the existing viaduct and subsequent construction taking place within a restricted planning footprint with the replacement structure moving 13metres further east. Successful delivery of the SAR and the application for the notice of requirement to a reduced Transit NZ scheme programme allowed the scheme to progress to procurement.
